Tell the federal government: It’s time for Canada to become a global climate leader
Canadians have an incredible opportunity before us. The federal government has committed to creating a climate change plan for Canada in consultation with provinces, First Nations, stakeholders, and citizens. An ambitious framework must include firm targets to reduce carbon pollution in line with Canada’s Paris commitment to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, and a national plan to meet those targets.
But now the federal government is backtracking on its climate ambition. The Minister of Environment and Climate Change recently announced that Canada would keep the carbon pollution target set by the previous government. That target is the weakest in the G7 and insufficient to achieve Canada’s Paris commitment.
Climate leadership requires action across all economic sectors and in all provinces and territories to meet ambitious carbon reduction targets. A comprehensive approach to fighting climate change won’t be easy, but it’s critical for success. Canada must do its fair share to fulfill the UN Paris Agreement.
The federal government is asking for public input on its climate change framework. This is your chance to help Canada get on track for climate action and make the climate change framework as ambitious as possible.
Take action! Tell the federal government to make Canada a global climate leader.
