TELL THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO PROTECT CANADIANS’ FREE SPEECH
A NEW LAW IS NEEDED TO GIVE CITIZENS A VOICE THROUGH CHARITIES THEY SUPPORT
Charities provide an invaluable service for Canadians by advocating for their rights, for better policies to help protect our environment, ensure the health of our families, eradicate poverty, and more. Charities voice the concerns of Canadians.
But the rules around what charities can and cannot do are open to abuse due to ambiguous and arbitrary guidelines. In the past, the former federal government used this ambiguity to launch costly and harassing audits of charities whose views the government disagreed with. If the laws aren’t comprehensively reformed, this could happen again.
Fortunately, after consultation with Canadians, charitable organizations, and an Expert Panel, the current Federal government is considering reforming the outdated charities law to protect the ability of charities to advocate for change. There is now once in a life time opportunity to bring about comprehensive charities law reform, one that protects your right to be heard through the charities you support.
Send a letter today to tell the Prime Minister you value the role charities play in Canadian society and what specific changes you want to see in the future charities law.
